Background (Our specialisation in high temperature plastics)

As one of the most versatile grades in our product range, ABSCOM® T4060 stands out as a high heat-resistant ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) grade, boasting ‘superior’ heat distortion properties. Specifically, this material is utilised in automotive interiors, notably in centre consoles and edge trims.

Drawing parallels with Polymer Compounders Limited’s well-received general-purpose ABSCOM® grades, namely S105 and F350, T4060 elevates the standard. It retains the remarkable characteristics of S105 and further enhances them by integrating superior heat performance alongside a lower, ‘stiffer’ MFI (Melt Flow Index). Moreover, ABSCOM® T4060 marks an advancement over the general-purpose S105 grade by incorporating a Vicat softening point exceeding 106 degrees.

Consequently, this material becomes an ideal choice for applications subjected to prolonged high temperatures, such as in an automotive ‘paint shop’. This aspect is critically important because materials used in such settings must maintain rigidity, even after the intense paint annealing process. Maintaining rigidity is pivotal, as frequently replacing materials during painting would be impractical and not cost-effective.

Where will you find this material?

ABSCOM® T4060 currently be found on a few vehicles made by a well-known Japanese car manufacturer. Most notably, our ‘high heat’ ABS plastic material is present in their most successful models of recent times. ABSCOM® T4060 has a Sibling grade ABSCOM® T4100 that is used in similar application situations to ABSCOM® T4060; however, ABSCOM® T4100, another one of our heat resistant plastics, offers a much stiffer flow with a lesser impact. It does, however, have a slightly better softening point than ABSCOM® T4060.
